I am a friendly, chatty English teacher with a passion for English literature and the English language. I love travelling and try to do so as often as I can. I try to volunteer abroad once a year as I do not believe you can put a price on helping others and giving to those who need it. I think of myself as kind, warm and nurturing whilst also a person who pushes for high standards and achievement in a safe and warm environment.
I was hired during my training year at a high achieving college in Southport. I worked my first three months of teaching as a English GCSE Resit teacher. After a positive OFSTED observation, I was promoted to subject leader of English GCSE and English Literature A level as well as unanimously nominated to be a member of the 'teaching and learning' committee, sharing best practice within the college.
I have recently transitioned from teaching in a sixth form college to a secondary school in South Liverpool that caters for students from a lower-socioeconomic area. Within this setting, I teach English for KS3, KS4 and KS5.
I have proven record of achievement, with a 100% pass rate in GCSE English Language.
As a tutor and teacher, I aim to support students academically whilst nurturing their self-confidence and self-belief. I believe that academic success comes in the knowledge of your subject alongside the belief that you can achieve.
Within my lessons in school as well as my tutoring sessions, I take a very exam based focus to teaching. This is due to the fact that the end goal for students is to take all of their knowledge and show the examiner on exam day what they know. It is therefore vital that the student understands the expectation of the paper they are doing alongside the knowledge to succeed and reach their potential.
The moment that you put a block in your mind that 'you are not going to succeed' is the moment that succeeding becomes a lot harder. I like to build a good relationship with my students so that they feel comfortable to speak up when confused as well as feeling confident that I have a belief in them.
