I currently work as a full time English Secondary School Teacher having completed my PGCE in Secondary English at the University of Exeter. Previous to that I studied for my English degree where I also studied Education as a secondary subject. Over the last 6 years I have spent much of my time in and out of schools working in a variety of lessons helping out as a teaching assistant and providing revision and expert teaching sessions.

I have found that education, in all walks of life, is the key to unlocking doors and widening ones horizons. I am passionate about learning and I wish to inspire the same love in all those I teach.

Tutoring Experience

Currrently I am a full time English teacher at a local secondary school in Torbay. Last year I undertook placements in a variety of Secondary Schools in South Devon where I was gaining evidence and experience for the award of a PGCE. Also as part of the course I was expected to run peer teaching sessions and 'expert' teaching sessions at the university.
Previously I have also worked in a variety of schools both Primary and Secondary as a voluntary teaching assistant. My role and responsibilities included preparing resources for lessons, helping students with tasks that were set and ensuring they understood exactly what was expected of them. I was also asked to prepare revision sessions for students preparing for GCSE and A Level English and Law and hold sessions at lunchtimes for students.

Tutoring Approach

My approach to teaching is simple it has to be engaging. The two most important aspects with learning and teaching is 'What do I want a student to learn?' and "How am I going to get the student to learn it based on their individual way of learning?'. All my sessions will be sequenced into a scheme of work with the long term aim and focus being at the centre of each session. I use a variety of methods and activities that are both innovative, creative and fun which aims to boost confidence and enhance learning.
