Personal Description:

Working in Wareham area and also Bournemouth, I am a very experienced teacher across a variety of Educational settings. Being highly qualified with a degree from Oxford University and having worked for many years in KS1 and KS2. I have the skills to help your child succeed, gain confidence and enjoy their learning.

Tutoring Experience:

My experience has been mainly with children from 5 to 11 years although I have sometimes worked with adults.

During my 30 years working in schools I attended all training, particularly in maths and literacy but also Safeguarding of children and assessment and planning of work.

I have been emoloyed by schoolsl to undertake 1-1 and small **Contact Detail Removed** in order to boost the achievement of certain pupils. In addition I have been helping to administer and invigilate exams in a local Grammar school and other schools. I am also employed on a contract basis to try out KS1 and 2 exam questions before they are used in National Tests. This involves working with the management of chosen schools and interviewing the children who have taken the tests. In addition I also attend conferences where I work with a team to undertake detailed marking of kS1 and KS2 tests I have also taught 1-1 sats booster sessions in schools.

Tutoring Approach:

My teaching style is creative but thorough and I will make lessons enjoyable as well as rewarding.

I can work from my own home and am also willing to travel.

Your child may be struggling for a number of reasons but it is very likely that being in a busy classroom with not much chance of individual attention is significant.
If your child is not struggling it is also likely that he/she is not being stretched as much as would be possible in a 1-1 or small group situation. Ofsted are constantly making this a reason for criticising a school. However, it should be said that it is unfair to expect a teacher to be able to give individual support at a deep level when that teacher has 25 or more children all needing that attention. I would aim to be sympathetic to the learning that is going on in the classroom and the curriculum of the school your child attends.

My strong desire is to use my skills and experience to help the learning of young people, particularly those who lack confidence and feel they can’t keep up. When I was young I could not read until I was about 11 years old and was more or less written off by the system. However, I went on to gain a degree in Education and Religious Studies from Oxford University. This came about because I met great teachers along the way who believed in me and gave me the inner desire to enjoy learning and to want to achieve.

That gift was given to me by teachers who went the extra mile. I want to pass it on.
