English (Foreign Language)
I am a friendly, dynamic tutor with both a PhD and PGCE in English. Currently, I teach English at a local secondary school from Years 7-11.
In 2015 I received my CELTA and now teach EFL (English as a Foreign Language). I specialise in EAP (English for Academic Purposes) but am very happy to teach EFL for general or other purposes. I am 33 years of age and hold proof of DBS (CRB) check.
I am committed to high academic and behaviour standards and trust that my encouraging and student-centered approach is effective in this area. My private tuition produces noticeable improvements in student confidence, attainment and ambition. I specialise in getting students the grades they need and assisting those who would otherwise not achieve their potential.
I teach at a local secondary school and have previously taught at the University of Southampton, the University of Sussex, and for the private education company Debate Chamber, as well as one-to-one sessions with KS3, GCSE, AS and A-Level students.
I work on spelling, punctuation and grammar with all of my students, but particularly those in Year 7-11. I teach students how to plan, edit and check their own work and, as a result, my students often go up at least 2 grade boundaries (e.g. from C to A, or, under the new system 4-6).
This is my 8th year of teaching and I have covered a range of subjects and literary genres such as Shakespeare studies, post-modernism, theatre studies, critical theory, Victorian texts, Gothic literature, and poetic analysis. I have experience working with secondary school students and have covered a range of GCSE authors including Stevenson, Dickens, Austen, Steinbeck, Shakespeare, Plath, Priestley, Hughes, Larkin, and Armitage. I also have an excellent track record of helping A-Level students achieve their target results for entry into higher education. Most recently I have taught works by John Donne, Christopher Marlowe, John Webster, Emily Bronte, Ian McEwan and Jean Rhys for A2 with excellent outcomes. Similarly, I have helped mature students to enter and complete Access courses.
I currently tutor KS3, GCSE, AS and A-Level English Literature and English Language to students registered with the examining bodies AQA, WJECS, OCR and Edexcel.
I have also worked on the improvement of English language skills with international postgraduate students.
My lessons and individual programmes maintain a safe, encouraging and engaging learning environment. My enthusiastic teaching style combined with my capability to assess the needs and ability of every pupil, always brings out the best in my students and produces noticeably improved results.

Jeni is keen to use topics that my son likes to help with his learning. I would highly recommend her to anyone wanting an English tutor.
