With a Biological BA from Oxford and PhD from Imperial College, having lectured at Cambridge during my postdoc, I am the ideal tutor to provide not only technical scientific knowledge but also the approaches and techniques required for effective learning. I've been tutoring in London and Cambridge for the past 7 years and have enjoyed helping my student improve their knowledge, their thinking skills, and as a result, their grades.
My interest in tutoring began in school, teaching music and brass instrumental technique. The enjoyment I get from helping pupils not only to perform well but understand how things work crossed into academia as my scientific knowledge expanded. Until recently I taught a regular dance class in Cambridge, crossing back into the arts.
I attended a private school in Cambridge where I achieved top grades in ten GCSEs, followed by Biology, Physics, Maths (plus AS Further Maths) and Music A-levels. I graduated from The University of Oxford in 2011 with an upper second class honours degree in Biological Sciences, and from Imperial College with a PhD in Molecular Biosciences.
I received my ABRSM Grade 8 Distinction in 2003 and have been taught be Hugh Seenan (Honorary Chairman of the British Horn Society). Having been a member of the National Youth Orchestra for four years, I have performed at the Royal Albert Hall, Glastonbury and venues across the UK. With a chamber ensemble I have been invited on tour to Singapore and with a professional musical theater group to Cyprus.
I have had many academic tutees, from GCSE to Undergraduate level, mainly focused on Sciences and Maths, with a range of abilities. More broadly, I've given undergraduate lectures and tutorials at Cambridge University and supervised undergraduate research projects at Imperial College and Cambridge University.
I am also an experienced music and dance teacher in both class and individual settings.
The most important aspect of education is learning how to think, how to approach problems and how to build upon understanding rather than accumulating knowledge. I try to direct my students to discover fundamentals, helping them to work things out for themselves.
