I am highly qualified, very experienced and love teaching.I challenge pupils to achieve beyond their expectations, motivating them to become enthusiastic about English. My English degree and thirty years' experience enable me to offer them first class support .I enjoy working closely alongside parents, giving tips to empower them to better assist their children's learning at home.
This year, I passed a course at Oxford University on the literature of love. I regularly attend a creative writing group led by a professional writer and a reading group with friends who share my passion for books. I enjoy travelling, walking in the countryside, going to the theatre and visiting historic houses . As the mother of a child who has recently been through the school system in Buckinghamshire, I have an understanding of learning from the perspectives of both students and parents. My style is warm, friendly and approachable.I relate well to teenagers . Your child will quickly settle, grow in confidence and start to progress.
I have taught in a leading grammar school, secondary modern school ,revision and tuition centres.I now concentrate on one to one tuition. My pupils come from most of the local schools within a twenty mile radius. This experience enables me to give strong support to them from a thorough knowledge of their school context. Furthermore, I am highly successful with examination work, including A Level, G.C.S.E, and I.G.C.S.E. I enable pupils to pass entrance examinations for top public schools.I help many pupils at Key Stage 3 improve their standards in preparation for G.C.S.E. My understanding of those with special educational needs including high functioning autism and dyslexia is strong so I ensure they reach their potential.I enjoy teaching children at Key Stages 1 and 2 often turning reluctant readers or writers into keen ones.I develop speaking skills drawing upon my knowledge from the classroom and coaching public speaking teams. Business English is one of my specialisms .Adults learn to improve the quality of their written English so that they can progress faster in the work place.
To begin with I give a warm welcome .I establish learning needs, first discussing them with you and your child. The tasks for the first few lessons are often designed around their interests in order to stimulate learning. Many find writing a challenge so I will often break tasks into smaller units supporting each stage. Writing becomes much easier and some have taken to it in their spare time. Proof reading is another area I often focus on. I teach them to find their own errors by building up a personal list of mistakes which they need to eliminate. Soon their work becomes accurate. They also develop their own dictionary for spelling and vocabulary. Highly able pupils may work on improving their style and tone. I have many up to date, appealing resources including recent examination papers and samples of excellent work. I will give you feedback on progress. My approach is a positive one so your child will develop confidence, a love of learning and a desire to succeed.
