Hi, you can call me Jay. I have been tutoring for about 20 years now (where did the years go!). I have been tutoring Maths, Chemistry and Physics for many year as they are my favourite subjects and they never fail to keep me excited and happy. I love to teach these subjects to students - they provide knowledge that is useful in our daily lives, and the requirement to achieve a minimum/top grade in Maths to progress to next level of education/ career has made it even more important in students' lives. I hope to pass the excitement and happiness I get in talking about these subjects to my students too!
I have been tutoring Maths, Chemistry and Physics since 1997. For A Level maths, I teach all modules; Pure, Statistics and Mechanics. I am Post Graduate Certificate in Education (Secondary and A Level Maths) qualified and I've been teaching in classrooms from 2011-1016. I am up-to-date with the Scheme of Work and the requirements from various exam boards. I am able to adapt and motivate students of all abilities and I have taught students with a range of learning abilities. I am always able to motivate my students to be more engaged in the subjects, which builds their confidence to achieve more than what they initially targeted to achieve.
Tutoring is about providing personalised teaching and learning. Each student learns differently and it is the tutor's responsibility to tailor the style of teaching to how a student learns. Though tutoring is about guiding and scaffolding the learning, I am a strong believer in independent learning. Students are encouraged to engage questions they don't quite understand but are willing to try - I then provide valuable feedback instantly for students to improve. This is what makes my tutoring a success. Students will be well prepared to use the independent thinking skills they have mastered, in exam conditions when they are not allowed to discuss and have to perform in the specified timing.
