Personal Description:

I am a recent Biochemistry graduate from the University of Oxford. Prior to graduation I chose to take a role as a Chemistry Teacher in an independent school in Surrey (UK) in order to become a qualified teacher. Although my time there provided me with an incredible amount of experience in front of a student audience and as part of a highly organised team of teachers in the department, I have been decided to modify my career path and begin a new role elsewhere that will allow me to grow further as a researcher, administrator and educator and make a bigger impact in the world. Nonetheless I still would like to fulfil my passion for teaching and I believe that independent tutoring to young individuals one on one may be a more suitable approach to my teaching style.

Tutoring Experience:

As a chemistry teacher in what's considered the best Independent School in the southeast of England I have extensive experience teaching Chemistry up to A2 level using the Edexcel and OCR specifications. My role as a teacher has provided me with opportunities to develop my ability to track progress and to ensure productivity in pupils; as well as to effectively engage a student audience through dynamic and differentiated exercises within the topic. This is demonstrated by the high performance, over 70% average per year group, of my pupils in their monthly assessments. Furthermore this experience has also allowed me to create and employ an extensive archive of resources to employ during my session.
Moreover throughout my time at University I used to tutor English as a Foreign Language to Spanish middle school and sixth form students and I am well aware of the requirements and the dynamics that both students and parents look for in a tutor.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe in teaching through the passion of learning and thus follow a Socratic approach to education in order to engage students into topic. To do so, I first create a primary assessment of knowledge and a tailored learning plan to the pupil and the syllabus that will guide our development through the subject. My teaching methods focus on the understanding and implementation of core principles through the introduction of relatable examples and explanations and the provision of easy to memorise mnemonics; which creates a enhanced and long lasting learning experience. My extensive collection of resources, such as exercises and summaries, allows for the grounding and application of concepts and provides an exclusive opportunity to ensure pupils are comfortable with the syllabus and the way questions will be presented in exams. This ensures the successful achievement and implementation of learning objectives in school, homework and pupil examinations.

By applying positive reinforcement techniques and focusing on the learning value I provide a more individualised and encouraging atmosphere which sometimes lacks in schools. Nonetheless, by adapting my sessions to the teaching structure provided at school I ensure that my teaching complements and enhances the learning experience of my pupils. I believe it is necessary to establish a cooperative connection between pupil and tutor, particularly in those students most discouraged from past experiences at school and introduce reachable but concrete goals to encourage and push pupils to succeed in their learning path.
