I hold the qualities, in which I believe, make me an excellent teacher/ tutor. I am kind and friendly (very important for your child to feel safe and enjoy their tutoring sessions), patient and calm (we can go over an area they are stuck on several times and these are such important skills that both help me to teach and that I can pass on to your child in order to help them succeed) and energetic and fun (where possible, I believe tutoring should involve games and be as interactive as possible for the child, to keep them focused and help them to learn).
Outside of teaching, I am hugely creative, making items for my home or to sell, have taught art workshops at festivals and after school clubs and run my own business in interior styling.
I also enjoy running, travelling and (most recently) being a mum!
I am a fully qualified primary school teacher, having undertaken a four year teaching degree, specialising in art. My teaching career has spanned over 7 years and I have taught both full time (teaching all subjects to one class) and as a supply teacher (covering different classes across a range of schools) in this time.
I have had experience teaching all subjects across all primary school ages (age 4-11). I have also tutored (in school) children aged 9 in both literacy and numeracy and out of school (through First Tutors) children aged 6-11 both literacy and numeracy.
My approach to tutoring for either literacy (English) or numeracy (maths), both of which can be a challenge to children, is to constantly try new approaches... if something isn't working, scrap it and try a different method. Often a child is struggling with a particular subject just because they are not understanding the given method of teaching it. Having taught a class of 30 (or more) for 7 years and tutored one on one, I can understand both the methods that your child may have received of teaching in school and use these and adapt them to tutor for tutoring.
Every child learns differently and I would aim to plan the sessions to suit the individual childs needs, whether that means learning through more visual methods or being interactive and using lots of resources.
Through art and design tutoring, I use my own knowledge and skills to teach right from the basics (how to hold a paintbrush correctly) through to perspective or line drawing. I have taught all age groups and cover a wide spectrum of creative skills in my teaching, including recycling old household goods and items into art works (junk modelling, collage, etc).
