English and Drama Tuition in Birmingham

On leaving school I trained in Sewing and Dressmaking Skills Youth Training at Tyseley Training Centre. Then I went on to became a Professional Dancer with Iuhuru becoming The Deputy Manager.

As a member of EWF in 1986 I with a partner created 'Heritage Sewing Unit' utilising the skills I learnt at Tyseley.
In EWF I became The Education Committee Chairperson/Saturday School which taught 3Rs, History, RE and Drama. (Before any formal training).
I also formed my own ‘Life’ Video Company recording weddings, christenings, parties and conferences. My greatest accolade was making a video for Birmingham City Council, entitled ‘Disability and Sport’. I found the work was very seasonal. After Heritage Sewing Unit folded. I was advised by the Tax Office to go and get qualifications to run business (That’s a whole story in itself!)

I joined Elite Shoes as a bookkeeper whilst studying for my B’Tech National qualification in Business and Finance.
However, I never really used that qualification as it opened the door to University for me.
My Teaching Degree Major: Theology Minor: Theatre Studies/Drama
I have been Literacy and Creative Partnership Co-ordinator, P.H.S.E. Co-ordinator and History Co-ordinator.

As the Co-ordinator of Creative Arts, (A government funded project which used collaborative projects between 5 schools to raise the attainment of pupils in Reading, Writing and Numeracy), I have worked with Punch Records, The Ikon Gallery, Women and Theatre, The Repertory Theatre, Language Alive and Central TV’s ‘Just A Moment’. We produced five short nativity scenes for ‘Just A Moment’. This project enhanced, refreshed and up-dated my ICT- skills, using cameras(still and video), skills in recording sound effects etc, lighting boards and computers to create visual effects.) That was 2008 .

I implemented S.E.A.L. (Social and Emotional Aspects of Learning) into the curriculum throughout the school. I have been a School Governor for 8 years

Tutoring Approach

My Teaching style is 'Child Centred' inquiry based learning. I act as a

facilitator, and a demonstrator. I often use these styles in combination to meet diverse student needs and learning objectives. I use a mix of approaches to promote critical thinking, collaboration, and active learning. I teach through Project-Based Learning and Differentiated Instructions.
