On leaving school I trained in Sewing and Dressmaking Skills Youth Training at Tyseley Training Centre. Then I went on to became a Professional Dancer with Iuhuru becoming The Deputy Manager.
As a member of EWF in 1986 I with a partner created 'Heritage Sewing Unit' utilising the skills I learnt at Tyseley.
In EWF I became The Education Committee Chairperson/Saturday School which taught 3Rs, History, RE and Drama. (Before any formal training).
I also formed my own ‘Life’ Video Company recording weddings, christenings, parties and conferences. My greatest accolade was making a video for Birmingham City Council, entitled ‘Disability and Sport’. I found the work was very seasonal. After Heritage Sewing Unit folded. I was advised by the Tax Office to go and get qualifications to run business (That’s a whole story in itself!)
I joined Elite Shoes as a bookkeeper whilst studying for my B’Tech National qualification in Business and Finance.
However, I never really used that qualification as it opened the door to University for me.
