This is how 2 referees rated Jann:
I am an experienced secondary Teacher of English and English tutor. Many parents have said their son or daughter would not have gotten their qualification without my help. I am enthusiastic, patient, encouraging and I explain things in ways that tutees can easily understand. As a pupil once said to me, "I don't understand when other teachers explain things, but I understand how you explain things and you don't give up until I understand everything." The very nature of tutoring allows me to give individual attention to either one tutee or two tutees coming for sessions. I love tutoring, building the confidence of tutees and seeing tutees succeed. Though I am American by nationality, I have lived in the UK since 1990 and I am very accustomed to British English and British education having taught in the UK. I did my PGCE at the University of Durham and have taught in Scotland. I prefer 24 hours notice of cancellations. if at all possible. I tutor in my home or I can come to the tutee's home for tuition. I do not charge mileage.
Secondary Teacher of English in Scotland GTCS registered.
One of the most important aspects of tutoring is building confidence by showing tutees they can accomplish what they sometimes think they cannot. I am confident, patient and encouraging as I take a tutee methodically through the qualification they hope to achieve. We focus on what they consider weaknesses or what has shown itself as a weakness in classroom work or prelim results. We are able to work through these, build confidence and increase understanding of what is required in classroom work or exams.

Jann, simply goes over and above her job, excellent communication between her, student and parents. Jann, always gives feedback to the parent after every session. Keeps everyone informed on what is being taught.
Excellent at getting the student to understand what is needed. My son was really strugling with his higher English, Jann gave him all the tools and information he needed. Thank you Jann, you are HIGHLY recommended.
Callum, my son has been going too Jann since November 2017. She has been building his confidence up since about his English. He has recently done his prilum English. He has come on tremendously and he wants to go which is tremendous. Thank you Jann for all your help. We will be recommending you.
Delighted with her results and Jann's help.
My son is happy to attend the tuition and this says a lot for Jann's ability in building up rapport with the tutee.
Update - Jann has continued to be fantastic at building confidence and knowledge. Hoping for a positive result from Nat 5 exams but whatever happens in the results I know it will be considerably more than my son would have achieved otherwise. Jann is both friendly and approachable to both myself and my son and I would not hesitate in recommending her as an excellent tutor.
Exam Results now received - My son has got a B in his Nat 5. Having failed his prelim this is a fantastic achievement that can be credited to Jann's excellent tuition and her approach in building knowledge and confidence in my son. I would not hesitate to recommend Jann as an English tutor.
He enjoyed the lessons, feels that he has benefitted greatly and she has given him confidence to hopefully achieve a high grade in the Summer. Thank you Jann.
I would highly recommend Jann to anyone who is looking for an English Tutor
Daniel has most definitely benefited from the sessions he had with you, he is looking forward to resuming tuition with you in the summer holidays.
The feedback from the school was somewhat worrying when informed of the need for extra support for him. That said, the school are providing scribes/readers in all subjects with the view to him being formally assessed by the SQA leading up to exams.
We will be in touch closer to the summer holidays to arrange further sessions with you.
PS All schools have a legal obligation to provide support once assessment has taken place and there is entitlement for assessment.
