I am an experienced secondary Teacher of English and English tutor. Many parents have said their son or daughter would not have gotten their qualification without my help. I am enthusiastic, patient, encouraging and I explain things in ways that tutees can easily understand. As a pupil once said to me, "I don't understand when other teachers explain things, but I understand how you explain things and you don't give up until I understand everything." The very nature of tutoring allows me to give individual attention to either one tutee or two tutees coming for sessions. I love tutoring, building the confidence of tutees and seeing tutees succeed. Though I am American by nationality, I have lived in the UK since 1990 and I am very accustomed to British English and British education having taught in the UK. I did my PGCE at the University of Durham and have taught in Scotland. I prefer 24 hours notice of cancellations. if at all possible. I tutor in my home or I can come to the tutee's home for tuition. I do not charge mileage.
Secondary Teacher of English in Scotland GTCS registered.
One of the most important aspects of tutoring is building confidence by showing tutees they can accomplish what they sometimes think they cannot. I am confident, patient and encouraging as I take a tutee methodically through the qualification they hope to achieve. We focus on what they consider weaknesses or what has shown itself as a weakness in classroom work or prelim results. We are able to work through these, build confidence and increase understanding of what is required in classroom work or exams.
