I graduated with an MMath from Trinity College Cambridge in 2012 and am a qualified maths teacher, with experience teaching ages 11 to 18. What I love about maths is the way so many ideas connect and link to allow you to solve problems. My belief is that learning maths is important for developing your overall problem solving skills in later life. Outside of work I enjoy art and craft, travelling and being in the countryside.
After graduating I taught for 2 years at a private school and then moved into the state sector where I stayed for almost 2 years. I have several years of experience as a private tutor, including primary, secondary, GCSE and A-level, both with students who are excelling and students who are struggling. I have received excellent feedback from parents, with students increasing their confidence, knowledge and enjoyment of maths through sessions with me.
PLEASE NOTE: I am currently teaching online only, until the end of September. My preferred method is to speak via Google Hangouts, and to use a shared online whiteboard to write.
I am open to requests about how lessons are run. I am happy to lead the lesson or to allow the student to take the lead. I can also prepare materials in advance if necessary (I will ask for a small fee to cover time spent).
For example, if the student specifies a topic which they would like to work on then we can work through it, breaking it down and looking at why it works. We can spend time discussing or practising/consolidating, or both. I would also ensure understanding is deep and not superficial.
Alternatively, we could spend time discussing various issues and fixing problems or filling holes in understanding.
