Personal Description:

An experienced primary school teacher, I am passionate about learning and have a particular interest in developing Literacy and Numeracy skills for children in Early Years, Key Stage One and Key Stage Two education (ages 4 to 11). I firmly believe that strong foundations for learning need to be laid down during the primary years if a child is to succeed later on in life. I am empathic, organised, dedicated and rigorous in my approach, thriving on helping children gain the skills they need to flourish in the 21st Century.

Tutoring Experience:

I trained as a teacher over 16 years ago under the Graduate Teacher Programme. Prior to this I worked as a Conference Manager and Editor for a publishing company specialising in the oil, gas and telecoms industries. For the past 12 years I have worked in one infant school, initially across the age range and for the last seven years as a Year One teacher. During this time, the children I have taught have achieved excellent outcomes. I have also acted as a mentor to student teachers and to newly qualified teachers and acted as a Child Protection Officer. Due to personal circumstances, I have recently decided to withdraw from my full-time role to concentrate on tutoring and supply teaching.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that every child has the ability to succeed but that some need a little more support than others. I aim to tailor my tutoring programme to the exact needs of each individual child so that he or she feels engaged, supported, confident and eager to learn. I am able to build good relationships with both tutees and their parents and to approach teaching in a patient and sympathetic manner so that everybody involved feels motivated. I often equate teaching and learning to building a wall. If one brick is out of place, the whole wall comes tumbling down. If the wall is solid, bricks for the future have a secure resting place.
