As an English teacher of many years I developed a very friendly and fun style of teaching. I am passionate about my subject and have gained a wealth of understanding, not just knowledge of the English language and Functional Skills, but how best to serve the learner. I understand the huge necessity for learners to be able to have a good grounding in language in order to progress and develop their skills, both spoken and written. I am both supportive and very patient in guiding learners to succeed and achieve at every level. I qualified as a clinical hypnotherapist and understand how the subconscious mind plays a huge role in how an individual processes and assimilates thoughts and actions, I then apply this knowledge to assist my learners. I am also a qualified Educational Performance Practitioner (Secondary) which enables learners to break down barriers to success and to calm anxieties and worries related to their performance both in class and in exam situations. I am also a Calm Kids Coach (Primary) and work with learners (one to one and in groups) in a similar way to EPP and teach students strategies to help them deal with stress, anxiety and difficult situations.
I have worked for the past 25 years as a teacher/tutor in schools, colleges and in the community. I initially qualified as an SEN Tutor in FE for 8 years, working with moderate to severe learning difficulty learners and then trained as an ESOL Tutor and worked for 3 years in Japan, where I worked with all ages and levels of learners.
I specialise in English as a Second Language with absolute beginners to Level 2 and GCSE level learners and this has developed my gentle approach from the young learner, to primary, secondary and adult learners alike. I have extensive experience in all levels and ages of learners and through this have learned some excellent teaching approaches and methods that will get the best out of all learners' learning styles and appeal to all learners needs and personalities.
My approach to teaching is a kind, empathetic and supportive one. I understand the stresses and strains that learners are put under to achieve and offer a warm, safe and helpful, alternative environment. I regard my methods as fun and friendly and provide a happy, calm space for learners to be open and relaxed. This method enables students to learn without pressure or stress who then find that learning can be a fun activity and can enhance their ability to progress, improve and enjoy the process of learning.
