Personal Description:

I'm a final year PhD student in Philosophy and deeply passionate about helping students understand this challenging but deeply rewarding subject.

Tutoring Experience:

I have two years' experience teaching Philosophy at undergraduate level at the University of Warwick. This included sixty hours of teaching group seminars on a wide set of topics, as well as meeting with students one-to-one to assist them with their understanding and mentor them on their essay writing and clarity of written expression. I was also responsible for marking the essays of my seminar students, providing extensive written feedback and meeting with them individually to discuss their work. I have not tutored students privately before, but my previous teaching, both one-to-one and in groups, has given me experience of providing a professional and consistently high standard of tuition to students of a broad range of abilities and backgrounds.

Tutoring Approach:

My teaching experience has impressed on me the importance of tailoring any session to the specific needs and priorities of the student, whether that means walking through a core concept many different ways to assist someone feeling left behind, or providing the right mix of challenge and support to push an exceptional student to achieve their potential. While maintaining flexibility and responsiveness to the individual needs and interests of the student, I also understand the importance of providing a structure for their learning which allows them to see their progress and ensures they cover the ground necessary to achieve their goals.
