My name is James and I have been teaching in primary schools for 8 years. I originate from Somerset and moved up to East Yorkshire 5 years ago. I am passionate about sport, and have enjoyed many years playing cricket. I enjoy watching most sports, and have been known to support, dare I say it, Manchester United. In my defence, I tend to be a sofa supporter rather than an active one.
I enjoy spending time with children I am enthusiastic about teaching and thrive on helping children fulfil their potential. I am a caring individual and treat every child with the respect that they deserve. I am an approachable person, and have a lot of time for children. Honesty plays a big part with children, and I would class myself as an honest and open person.
I have been teaching for 8 years. I have worked in a mixture of infant and primary schools. Most of my training to be a teacher was in reception, and years 1 and 2. I have taught in years 1 and 2 for a total of 4 years, and I have taught years 3 and 4 for a further 4 years.
I always put the child first, and I look at their needs and try to do everything within my power to support that child in their learning to help them become a successful learner. I promote independence for each child by providing them with the skills to help them develop as independent learners so they can become self-sufficient and draw on their knowledge to help themselves. I can be direct with children and say what I feel needs to be said in order for the child to know where they are in their learning. This doesn't mean I do not have any compassion, but sometimes the truth does need to be said, and I would expect the same from the child. Throughout my teaching, I always try and give children more than one way to solve a problem, or more than one way to breakdown and approach a task. This enables the child to find a way that suits them, and that they can remember, in order to find the correct answer.
