Hello all, I'm James, I am studying for a PhD in Fluid Dynamics at Imperial College and I graduated last summer with a First Class Master's in Mechanical Engineering from Warwick University.
I'm offering tuition in Maths, Further Maths and Physics up to A-level and Chemistry up to GCSE, all of which I genuinely loved studying at school. Hopefully my enthusiasm will rub off a bit on those that I tutor!
In 2013, I took my A-levels at the Portsmouth Grammar School and achieved A*s in Maths and Further Maths and A's in Physics and Chemistry. I also achieved 9 A*s (Including Maths and Triple Science) and 1 A (English Literature) at GCSE.
My tutoring experience began by helping friends at school and university. I set up and ran revision sessions and gave 1 on 1 help to friends when they needed it!
I started personal tutoring at the end of my undergraduate degree last year, I have been tutoring 10 students over the course of the year at both GCSE and A-level standard and have seen them all grow in both confidence and ability which has been incredibly rewarding.
I think the most important thing is to understand the needs of each individual student; what their learning style is and what their targets and ambitions are for the upcoming exams. They can then ask all those silly little questions they are too scared to ask in class, that are actually the most important ones to understanding a topic, and I can tailor my explanations to best fit them!
One of the best ways to quickly identify any problem areas is by working through as many sample questions and past paper question as possible. I will provide guidance with problems initially and then make sure students are comfortable answering questions on their own before moving on to new topics.
I will also be happy to create summary sheets of each lesson, showing general methods that can be followed to solve different types of question.
