This is how 2 referees rated James:
I am a 1st Class Civil and Environmental Engineering student at the University of Edinburgh. Physics, Chemistry and Biology were subjects I pursued an understanding of and achieved highly in throughout school. I am due to return to Inverkeithing High School to assist in teaching Physics and Maths at all levels.
I have been fortunate enough to have received placements at award winning engineering firms during my time at University, including Scottish Water and Hoare Lea.
In addition to helping my 7 current tutees in Fife better their abilities, I have also been fortunate enough to have contributed over 100 hours of school service in the past – assisting classes in Science and P.E. at Inverkeithing High School (IHS).
In November 2016 I will be returning to IHS as an assistant teacher in Physics and Maths up to Advanced Higher Level. This forms part of volunteering through STEM-net, an ambitious body that strives to inspire Scotlands youth into Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics subjects.
My approach is to not just teach course material, but to teach tutees how to learn the material themselves in a way that suits them best. As well as building and developing tutee confidence, this approach has shown the best success for students to truly excel.
Feedback from students I have helped praise my constant commitment and patience to work through material with them, as opposed to supplying questions and walking away.
