Information About James - Sleaford tutor
This is how 2 referees rated James:
I have been working as primary school teacher for nearly six years, prior to that I was working in corporate funding in London. I am currently numeracy lead at a primary school near Sleaford. I have worked in years 2, 3 and 4.
I have six years' experience of teaching in primary schools and have taught across Key Stages 1 and 2. I have worked with children from a range of backgrounds and abilities including pupils with a variety of Special Educational Needs. Whilst teaching Year 2 I have had experience of SATS and have also coached children for their 11+ exam.
In numeracy I begin by using practical resources counting sticks, uniblocks etc to enable the child to see the process then progress to mental calculations. When tutoring literacy I apply visual literacy techniques beginning with planning for creative writing and then progressing to the actual story culminating in editing this will clear up any misconceptions or gaps. The pupil then has focussed teaching from their works concentrating on sentence structure, description and SPAG.
My aim is to boost children's confidence and give them the tools to unlock their own learning potential. Initial assessment is vital to uncover gaps and misconceptions which may hinder progress. Children need to enjoy learning and my job is to make it as enjoyable as I can, whilst inspiring the child themselves to want to do better and achieve. Each child is unique and learns differently; at different rates and in different ways- my aim is to find the most effective methods for your child to achieve his or her potential, enjoying the process along the way
