Personal Description:

I studied Classics at Oxford University, graduating in 2010 with a first-class degree. My two key interests were linguistics (especially Greek) and history. Since then, I have completed a Masters, and am now coming to the end of a DPhil in Ancient History at Oxford, with a focus on the Greek sermons of the late-antique bishop John Chrysostom. Alongside this, I have also been preparing translations of a number of his works.

My focus has throughout been on the Greek language and on Greek texts, and so I am well placed to teach Greek to an advanced level. I am, however, also available to teach Latin and Ancient History.

***I will be unavailable to teach from December 2016 to May 2017***

Tutoring Experience:

I have taught undergraduate students in the Faculty of Classics at Oxford University in predominantly Greek language and reading classes for 5 years (2011-6). I have also marked exam papers for collections (termly informal tests) and Mods (prelims).

Additionally, I have taught beginners' Biblical Greek to adults one-to-one on a casual basis.

Tutoring Approach:

My aim in tutoring is to combine clear, careful explanations with active learning - I particularly value giving students the opportunity to translate from English into Greek/Latin. I am a patient teacher, and happy to adapt pace to the needs of the student.

For Ancient History, my approach follows that of the Oxford tutorial system, encouraging self-learning and the development of one's own arguments, as opposed simply to teaching a series of 'facts'.
