Graduate with MPhys in Theoretical Physics, (First, with Honours) Starting PhD in October on 'Network Optimisation'
Academically I have a keen interest in Quantum Field Theory, Particle Physics, Mathematical Modelling and Non Linear Systems, along with implementing abstract mathematical ideas. I also, through my other commitments, have gained an interest in Education Theory, particular in teaching and examination styles
I also have a passionate, though amateur, enjoyment of history, etymology and politics, with a unashamed interest in keeping up to date with current events. I believe an appreciation for what is happening on the larger stage allows us to better guide our efforts in any roles we give ourselves day to day.
I love to travel, explore and learn, particuarly immersing myself within the local culture, which in turn has given me a wide breadth of general knowledge, most of which is rather interesting (or atleast I think so!)
Experience as a 1-1 Private Tutor, a High School Tutor/Classroom Assistant, a Univeristy Mentor, and Head of Mentoring, also have experience working with Primary School aged pupils.
In particular my most recent experience has been tutoring GCSE maths and science students both privately and as an employee of a local High School, working both with Higher Tier and foundation Tier students, and also those with a significant lower level of Maths who need additional support
I have developed a rather flexible style to tutoring and teaching, due to the differing needs and abilities of the students and also through the research I have done into education. However I always ensure that though I can tailor my tutoring utilise a students strengths, I do not deivate from the main goal of ensuring the entirity of a syllabus is covered, and is taught in a way representative of the examination style given.
In terms of Hours, I feel a tutoring session should last 90 minutes, (I find 60 minutes never quite gets going) and also feel that two such sessions a week is most effective, however of course I leave that upto the client. Regardless of the amount of time spent formally tutoring, I always like to remain open to queries and assitance throughout the week within reason, to ensure clients do not have to let small difficulties hold them up as they wait for there next session.
