I am passionate about my students and education and have an enthusiastic and creative approach to teaching maths. I love my subject and enjoy working with young people of all ages and abilities. I was born and brought up in Bangor and completed my schooling in local schools. I completed my further education at Cambridge University, with a degree in Mathematics and subsequently my PGCE in Secondary Mathematics Teaching. I now have four grown children of my own, and so realise the importance of a supportive family, particularly around stressful times in a student's education.
I am an experienced mathematics teacher, having been teaching mathematics at all levels from upper primary school to A2 level Further Mathematics for eight years. I have also taught Key Stage 3 ICT and GCSE and AS level physics. I have a positive, supportive friendly and committed approach toward my students and have always maintained excellent relationships with students and their parents. I have received a number of "outstanding" gradings for my lessons, with nothing less than "good with outstanding features" for the last four years.
I have a friendly and informal approach, aiming to support students to grow in confidence and hence achieve improved results. All sessions are carefully tailored to the individual requirements of the student both in terms of approach and content, focusing on identified areas for improvement and development. We have fun and aim to enjoy our sessions through good rapport and trust. I believe that this is important since most sessions are carried out after a full school day. Students will usually be given a small amount of homework to complete as a means of consolidating the learning in the sessions and to enable me to better assess their understanding and progress.
