I am very experience maths teacher who has taught maths for well over 35 years. I have a Masters Degree in Statistics from the London School of Economics and Masters and Doctorate degrees from Oxford University. I am a friendly and easy going person.
I have taught maths at GCSE level, A level and university level (Engineering maths and Quantitative Methods. For A level Maths, I can teach Pure Maths, Further Pure Maths, Statistics (all areas) and Mechanics.Over the years I have taught a number of students at A Levels who have achieve A* in Maths, Further Maths and Statistics. I have also given private tuition to students who have gone on to achieve their required grades
My approach to tutoring is to ascertain from the student the topics the student needs help in. Next I investigate the person prefer ways of learning to ensure that the person can understand whatever I explain to them. I am of the view that you must first understand the concepts of what you are learning and then acquire the tools to unable to solve the problem(s) in front of you. Understanding breeds confidence and confidence leads to improvement in learning.
I use difference approaches to solve a problem and the allow the student to use the one he or she feels confident with. I also encourage students practice solving problems to increase their skills set. I monitor progress by giving weekly homework
