Hi All, I’m Jack and I live and breath music! I have a particular hot spot for education and I’m really fascinated with the way in which we learn music and express, creatively. I was initially channeled in the classical field as a young chap and soon after starting, found my feet with the Jazz idiom. I appreciate both styles equally but most certainly consider myself a jazz player over a classical player. I’m all about taking things in small steps but making sure that the foundations and each step following, are absolutely concrete! I do like to have fun too so I don’t want to sound too strict - certainly isn’t the case!
I have taught privately for many years, since I was around 17/18 and also taught classmates of mine during my college years. I’ve also been involved in various masterclasses and other activities for schools.
As I mentioned above briefly, I am very keen on making things polished. The fundamentals, whether it be scales, chords, theory etc, are often what steers the younger generation away from learning but I like to quickly progress and relate these to the music making early on. It’s important that we can always visualise the end goal and that we can see what we’re on track to achieve. I like to make everything relevant and for there to be a strong purpose behind everything I’m teaching - even if the main goal is to have fun, I’m very aware of how much joy music can bring! I feel that it’s my job to equally inspire as much as it is to teach the theory!
