I am a hard working prospect Bristol Physics student with excellent aptitude for Maths & Physics. I love to help others reach a clearer understanding in Maths, and help them tackle the topics they struggle with. I've received outstanding results in Maths & Physics (see below), and have read and researched a lot of content outside of the curriculum so can work well with the more advanced students as well.
I am very approachable and sociable, and being a younger tutor, get on with students very well. As well as having a very clear understanding of the GCSE/A-level process. Working closely with several peers on projects and helping them informally with homework and assignments has allowed me to develop a patience and appreciation for different learning styles and different approaches.
I have a week's work experience with the engineering firm Arup which taught me the applications of academic Maths & Physics. I also have completed two duke of Edinburgh expeditions, which taught me the value of good co-operation, communication, and patience, when working with others to build relationships and complete tasks, as is involved in tutoring.
1.5 years tutoring.
Nearly a years experience tutoring a struggling student who was in y9/10 approaching Maths GCSE, whereby I learnt the essential of tutoring and developed teaching techniques and learnt how to target weaknesses. Also more recently a further 6 months teaching student of similar age but with a stronger understanding of Maths, which has allowed me to become a stronger tutor, and have very quickly seen positive results with this student.
Also informal but very regular experience helping peers with work and explaining concepts especially in Maths, all the way up to my current A2 studies.
During the first lesson I find out what the student has already covered, what they will be covering soon, and what topics they find easier or harder. I organise based on this what topics are good to review or to learn for the remainder of the lesson and the future, although often my lessons take a natural course based on where I notice gaps in understanding when working with the student.
I usually like to try and develop an intuitive understanding of topics for the student by deriving rules for them and showing them why methods work. From that point I try to help the student consolidate their understanding and employ the method successfully, while testing students ability to engage with overlapping topics. I strive to help students develop an intuition and more principle understanding for Maths that is not always achieved in school. As I find this is often the key to a successful student.
I also ensure to continue to reference the topics with respect to the way it will be examined, and keep the student aware of how topics will appear in the exam.
