My name is Jaafar and I've been a private Maths and Physics Tutor since 2015. I studied Theoretical Physics at UCL, and now work as a full-time tutor, having tutored throughout my Degree and A-Levels. I graduated this year.
Having enjoyed both my degree and tutoring, I endeavour to be able to give other children struggling with Maths and Physics, the same level of understanding and achievement I am lucky to have myself. My success in doing this is evident from my 100% 5-star feedback.
My aspiration, is to give students who've given up on Maths and Science, a second chance. And hopefully change their view of the field, growing in enthusiasm as their abilities improve and their knowledge deepens. I of course enjoy just as much teaching more able students! No matter your ability, expect to challenged and be willing to learn when you see me.
I've been teaching Physics and Maths at GCSE and A-Level working predominantly on Exam Boards Edexcel, AQA and OCR. I teach on all major exam board.
"My daughter is very happy with Jaafar, she finds him to be an excellent teacher. He came to the first lesson fully prepared for the specific area my daughters wished to cover. His teaching method are well planned and his explanations are very clear and structured." - GCSE Maths Student
" Jaafar is a responsible and well organised tutor. We are very happy with Jaafar." - A-Level Physics
" Jaafar is helping my son with modules in A2 further maths. He is patient, polite and had a good knowledge and understanding of the subject. We would definitely recommend his tutoring services." - A-Level Maths
I've encountered many different types of students and styles of learning. I aim to make the topic at hand feel relevant to student, which means first understanding what they aim to pursue in the future, and how the topic could relate to that. Student engagement and effort increases significantly when this happens. I do however have an overall traditionalist approach to long term learning. When it comes to Physics and Maths, fluency is only achieved through repetition and practice.
Time with me will be split between explaining concepts (1/4), then demonstrating examples (1/4), then practising the concepts with exercises (2/4). Syllabus specific to the exam board will be used as a comprehensive check to cover ALL material.
The focus will be on understanding and problem solving, but will move to Exam-Method as we get close to exams. Particular emphasis will be placed on Exam Presentation in order to maximise marks given by the examiner. Past-papers and mark-schemes will be used to get the student used to the format and timing of the Exam.
I place a lot of importance on commitment. As long as the student wants to succeed, I'm very relaxed and enjoy communicating my knowledge.
