Hi, I'm Izzy! I recently graduated from the University of Sheffield where I did Japanese Studies. I have spent the last 6 years studying Japanese language and culture and love to share all I have learnt.

I currently live in Sheffield and would be happy to tutor face to face to people nearby or online. My interests include hiking and climbing in the peak district, watching Ghibli films, travel, and getting to know people and their cultures.

Tutoring Experience

Degree in Japanese Studies: I have a 2.1 in Japanese Studies from the University of Sheffield with a focus on both language and culture.

Conversation facilitator at a Japanese University: I worked for Aoyama University leading group conversation sessions for English Language students with a large age range. I got a lot of experience helping people ease into speaking a second language and grow their confidence.

TEFL qualification: I have completed a Teaching English as a Foreign Language course which gave me skills and experience in teaching as a whole and especially teaching language.

Time spent in Japan: I lived and studied in Japan which gave me a deep understanding and experience of the language and culture. This was helped greatly by my time staying with a host family.

Online teaching: I have experience in online tutoring as a supplement to school learning. I have mostly taught English to Japanese students with a combined use of Japanese and English languages.

Tutoring Approach

I have an adaptable approach to teaching. I am happy to teach to an academic style syllabus, or to focus on a more overarching, conversational style. I enjoy using a student centred approach and tailoring lessons to student's interests, as this helps with getting comfortable in the language and makes the learning more enjoyable. I can also focus more on exam preparation in general or during pre-exam periods.

I offer a free first lesson so we can figure out if we're a good fit.
