Personal Description:

I am an experienced teacher working in schools, tuition centres and with private students. Having gained three As at A level and a further two at AS, I studied English Literature, Film Studies and Drama at The University of Manchester. From here I went on to study at the London Film Academy where I graduated with a Distinction in Film Making; then at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts - where I studied Directing. I have subsequently qualified to teach English as a foreign language (TFL accredited by the University of Kingston). I have continued to study as an adult and have taken courses in Sociology, Psychology and Politics.

Outside of teaching, I am co-founder of imaginary friends, a young theatre production company with whom I have written, devised and directed theatre for various London venues. I am interested in history, politics and art. As such, I enjoy visiting galleries, sights of historical interest and museums. I keep up to date with current affairs, campaigns and movements and I love to travel. In 2011 I won the Huss-Smickler Prize for poetry.

Tutoring Experience:

I have been a full time tutor for the last four years and have taken much pleasure from seeing tutees excel under my tuition. My experience as a tutor ranges from KS1 to degree level and I am eager to build a rapport with tutees of all ages and backgrounds. I am comfortable teaching English Language and Literature at all levels, Sociology, Creative Writing, Citizenship, Government and Politics, Film Studies, Religious Studies, Philosophy and primary maths. I also have extensive experience tutoring for the 11, 8 and 7 plus exams. I currently tutor in a primary school during the days, helping children to prepare for their SATS.

Tutoring Approach:

I am a friendly and thorough tutor, committed to unlocking the potential that lies in every student. To do so I feel it is important to create bespoke lesson plans and learning strategies, tailored with care and imagination to the specific needs of each tutee.

Rather than supplying a pupil with answers, I will always encourage a pupil to achieve the satisfaction of finding it for themselves. I have found this method to be helpful in committing method as well as material to memory and creates students who are confident in their understanding of what they are studying. It also helps me to understand the way in which a pupil thinks so that I may present ideas in a way that is appealing and accessible to them, as well as to identify gaps in their knowledge and understanding.

I encourage 'joined-up-thinking' in my pupils with the aim of equipping them to analyse and improve their work independently, apply the skills they have acquired to other areas of study and cultivate a genuine interest in their subject by realising its relevance to the world outside of the classroom.
