Information About Isabel - Bromley tutor
This is how 2 referees rated Isabel:
I am a first-year medical student, about to go into my second year. I am available till the end of August to teach A level and GCSE students Biology and Chemistry. I am competent in both OCR and AQA specifications. I have always had a passion for science and have had many experiences tutoring during secondary school. I understand the process many of my students will be going through whether it is preparing for GCSE exams, applying for university with UCAS or writing personal statements. I can offer help with applying to medical school and interview prep, particularly the MMI style, which is increasingly being used by medical schools. I can also help students create specific revision plans that are attainable and give advice on how they can achieve their end goal. Please feel free to contact me, I am available all weekdays at any time.
A – Biology (OCR) A- Chemistry (AQA) A- French (WJEC)
I tutored several students throughout my secondary school years. I have found that is essential that students truly understand concepts in order to be able to apply their knowledge effectively in exam situations. To check knowledge, I will use exam-style questions and examples throughout my sessions. Following the recent changes to A-level specifications from 2017, I understand that the resources may be limited for students online as most revision sites provide out-dated content that does not reflect the true nature of the current exams. Whereas, I have a thorough understanding of the new OCR A-level Biology exams having been the first year to sit it and I have created detailed notes that I used myself and will show students how to do the same. However, I also have considerable knowledge of AQA exams as well, having done AQA Biology and Chemistry at GCSE.
My approach always starts with the specification, having had many tutors myself, I have been able to weed out the good from bad by how often they refer back to the specification. It may seem obvious, but it is essential to have an understanding of the entire syllabus fully in order to achieve high grades. For A-level, since the time allocated to learn the syllabus is extended over 2 years, students may forget important topics that will be required knowledge for the exams, so it is essential to create a checklist that is constantly reviewed. My next approach is repetition, it is key to review the material at least 3 times with varying levels of depth, so that the last few weeks till the exams, my students can review the whole syllabus quickly and effortlessly. My aim is for my students to develop the confidence to answer more difficult and A*-lending questions with ease so they are fully prepared for their exams. For students with an interest in medicine, I can offer help with interview prep and advice with personal statements. However, I can also review non-medicine related personal statements. Please feel free to contact me for further details.
