I am a qualified medical doctor [MBBS, BSc (Hons)] with over six years of experience supporting students through a range of subjects at various levels including GCSE, A-levels, entrance exams (IELTS, UKCAT, BMAT) and university level medicine. I also offer personal statement advice and interview training.
Throughout medical school I was the recipient of numerous prizes and awards and was ranked in the top 20% of my graduating cohort. My own motivation to succeed has enabled me to succeed in securing highly ranked jobs as an academic doctor during my foundation years. I am currently working as a core medical trainee in London. Having passed my MRCP Part 1 and 2 early during my foundation training, I am currently working towards my PACES exam. My interests lie within general and acute medicine with a hope of specialising in geriatrics in the future.
Teaching is a passion and the success of my students drives this. I aim to provide a bespoke teaching service that meets your requirements and supports you as a student in achieving your goals.
I have a valid CRB check.
Medicine Teaching Experience:
Complementary to my job as an academic medical doctor, I deliver regular medical teaching both in an informal setting to medical students on the ward as well as formal medical teaching in lectures and small group seminars. Recently I taught on a medical teaching course aimed at third year medical students which received consistent positive feedback. Personal feedback of my teaching included “Irene communicated complex material in simple terms which made it easier to understand” and “Irene was knowledgeable in the material taught”. I have successfully run medical teaching lecture series aimed at students in their clinical years from year 3 to year 5.
For personal tutoring, I have conducted and delivered numerous OSCE and medical tutorials to medical students from Years 1 to 5. The students found all of these sessions helpful. I have also previously supported nursing, pharmacy, physician associates and biomedical students.
Entry to Medicine Experience:
I have over three years of experience successfully guiding students through their applications to medical schools in the UK. This includes providing advice on personal statements as well as support with preparing for the UKCAT and BMAT. I have conducted and delivered an ‘Entry to Medicine’ course for international students which was held at a reputed London medical school. Sessions included tips on how to succeed in the UKCAT & BMAT which received positive feedback and all my students have gone on to achieve commendable scores.
Having had considerable experience as an interview panel member previously, I provide mock interviews and can help you refine your presentation skills to improve your chance in succeeding at interview.
Essays and Dissertation advice:
My services also extend to proof-reading essays which are charged on an hourly basis.
SJT and Prescribing Skills Assessment:
Please get in touch if you would like support through the SJT and PSA exam.
My approach to every student is simple. I aim to provide tailor-made teaching that specifically meets their needs and demands. I have a vast variety of resources and past papers in the subjects I tutor which I use during the sessions in order to test understanding of the student.
The first hour will be a consultation discussion with the student and/or parents with the aim of understanding what the objectives of further tutoring sessions will be. Students will not only receive tutoring tailored to their curriculum but will be encouraged to be inquisitive and ask questions such as why and how.
