This is how 2 referees rated Ilya:
I am currently working as a Mathematics consultant in a technology firm, conducting research in image analysis and various current problems in the field of OMR (optical mark recognition). I have recently completed my Master's degree in Mathematics at University College London (UCL).
My academic record is strong: I am predicted to graduate with a First, and was awarded the Mathematics Department's Sessional Prize in 2013 for exam performance. I have also been selected to represent UCL at the International Mathematics Competition 2014, in Bulgaria (Honourable Mention). I have worked on a project on mathematical modelling under the supervision of a senior mathematics researcher at UCL in summer 2014. My dissertation for my Master's was 'Elliptic Curves and Complex Multiplication'.
Previously, I attended The Latymer School, Edmonton and at A Level took Mathematics (A*), Further Mathematics (A*), Physics (A) and Latin (A) and I also have an A in Additional Further Mathematics AS. In addition to this, I have 10 GCSEs, (8 A*s and 2 As).
Outside of mathematics, I am a musician and I sing in a number of choirs as well as play and teach a number of instruments including piano, flute, clarinet and saxophone. I also volunteer in social mobility projects for disabled children and young adults in North London, which I enjoy very much.
I have been tutoring both Mathematics and music for over six years, at different levels, from the 11+ to undergraduate level.
I am happy to teach any exam board for GCSE and all modules for A Level. I can also offer tuition in both AEA and STEP papers as well as assist in preparation for Oxbridge interviews.
At undergraduate level, I can tutor in real, complex and multivariable analysis, linear algebra, number theory (also algebraic number theory), group and ring theory, algebraic geometry, topology and various other (mostly algebraic) mathematical disciplines. I have tutored students in mathematical methods (such as solutions of PDEs) and various applied mathematics topics (such as statistics and modelling).
I have also tutored students of all abilities, in less formal settings, in piano, flute, clarinet, saxophone and music theory.
I tailor my teaching strategy to suit each individual student's learning style. I am happy to go over each and every concept and question, in different ways if necessary, until the student is happy with their understanding of the topic. With Mathematics in particular, practising various methods is often the best way of solidifying understanding of concepts, and to this end, I often create my own resources that address an individual student's educational needs. For example, this might be a diagrammatic explanation of an idea, or a set of worksheets for the student to work on for the next lesson. These strategies have proven effective in giving my students very high success rates.
