Philosophy / Critical Thinking
I'm currently undergoing a doctorate in Music at the University of York. I have a broad background in music, both as a teacher and a performer. I also studied Philosophy as an Undergraduate at the University of York where I graduated with a First Class degree. During my course, I specialised in a number of modules related to Mathematics, including both Logic and the Philosophy of Mathematics, which was the area of study for my dissertation. I am flexible, patient and friendly. I'm based in York, and willing to travel to tutees.
I teach the recorder, bassoon and piano, both privately and in a number of schools. I also teach the recorder at York St John University and the University of Hull. I am also the Director of the Minster Minstrels, an early music youth ensemble based in York. As an instrumental teacher, I have helped a number of pupils with preparation for their GCSE and A-Level exams, as well as help towards the ABRSM Theory exams.
I have worked with a wide range of ages and abilities, and I am able to adapt my teaching method to each particular student. I believe it is important to teach with enthusiasm, and to ensure that the tutor is flexible enough to meet the particular requirements of each student. I will set assignments and reading, where appropriate, in order to give a better understanding of the subject area. I will also work through past papers and exam questions (where possible) in a relaxed and low-pressure environment.
