Information About Ian - Tunbridge Wells tutor - (7 reviews)
This is how 2 referees rated Ian:
I have a first-class degree in Maths from Cambridge. I spent my career in IT-related positions, mostly with Deloitte Consulting and Oracle. I believe that 1-1 tuition achieves the best exam results.
I have wide experience in private tutoring of Maths at GCSE and IGCSE Level. In the past year I have been giving 1-1 tuition to 15 students who attend schools in the Tunbridge Wells area that use Edexcel, AQA and OCR Exam Boards. I have also given tuition to students who wish to refresh their "mental maths", gain a teaching qualification or gain entry to officer training in the Armed Services.
My approach depends partly on how near the exam date is. If the date is some way away I will focus on teaching the topics the pupil identifies that they have difficulty with. In particular I like to go through what the pupil has been taught in class since my last tuition session to check that they understand it and can successfully tackle exam questions in the topic. As the exam date gets nearer I work through a checklist of every topic in the syllabus, and ensure I cover everything the pupil needs to understand to achieve their target grade. I combine this with practising past papers to improve the pupil's exam technique. I am sympathetic to difficulties individual pupils may have, and I aim to build their confidence to tackle Maths problems and realise their full potential.
