Ian

I am a graduate of top-ranking St Andrews University (English Language and Literature, First Class Honours). In the recent past I was a University Professor in English and have published books and articles on English Language and Literature. I have also served as an Examiner and University Admissions Tutor.

I hold a First Class Honours degree in English Language and English Literature (University of St Andrews) and a Doctorate in English Literature (University of Leeds).

I live in Birmingham - West Midlands. I have been described as friendly, patient, sympathetic and approachable. I have recently worked with a variety of students from primary school age (9+), GCSE, A-level, through to senior professional (medical/psychology/science) and Masters/Doctoral research students (MA, PhD). In fact, I am very comfortable working with all ages and abilities.

Beyond the education field, I have also worked in the business sector as a Media/Communications Consultant and have volunteerred with an Ethnic Education Charity (BEEAS.

Tutoring Experience

I have 30 years of professional experience, having undertaken teaching and training in the University Higher Education Sector (Undergraduate and Postgraduate level) and in British Schools (Primary and Secondary). I am familiar with key texts and requirements for several UK exam boards: AQA, EDEXCEL (Pearson), WJECS, OCR (Oxford, Cambridge and RSA Exams)

During that period I have worked with very gifted students as well as children and adults who have needed special support in order to reach their full potential. My specialist areas are English Language and Literature; Study, Exam and Revision Skills; 11+ (Intensive Summer 2 day courses available); Essay/ Dissertation proof-reading and re-writing to a high standard; advice on University Personal Statements.

Increasingly, clients are also working with me online via TEAMS, especially on final year essays and research dissertations where excellent academic English style is essential to success.
