I am based in Brixton and work part time as an Intervention Maths Teacher. Alongside this I am studying at UCL towards a Masters in Education and Social Research, where I am exploring the barriers experienced to education by adults with learning difficulties. I have a friendly and approachable manner that is encouraging towards others.
I have worked continuously as a Maths Teacher since September 2008, working in both Secondary School and Sixth Form college. During this time I have developed a secure knowledge of the curriculum for both foundation and higher GCSE. I have also taught and tutored students in the the following A-Level Modules: Core 1, Core 2, Core 3, Statistics 1, Mechanics 1 and Further Pure 1.
In my current role I work with students who have fallen behind in their GCSE maths in order to provide accelerated progress through small group support designed to target each students knowledge gaps.
I believe that with Maths the most vital element to successful tuition is developing situations which force the student into thinking and doing for themselves. Through this they are able to confidently state what it is they have done and why it is this way, if they cannot, it is clear that more work needs to be done.
It is important that students are not merely learning a series of formulas and rules, but understanding maths holistically, so that they can use the skills they learn in a variety of scenarios.
I provide a large focus on test materials, as this allows the students to be able think around and tackle the problems they will have to solve in their examinations.
