Personal Description:

I have lived in South London for the majority of my life. School was as satisfying as it was enjoyable; I attended a selective grammar school called Sutton Grammar school for Boys where I also attended the 6th Form. I did Mathematics, Chemistry and Physics to A-Level as well as AS-level English Literature.

I went on to University at Bristol where I read Neuroscience (BSc). Following this, I worked in a challenging school in Birmingham for two years for an organisation called Teach First; I have now returned to the heady lights and bustle of London. I am relaxed, affable and have a constant desire to understand people that I'm with.

Having just finished Teach First I also have a masters level qualification in Educational leadership.

When not tutoring I enjoy exploring London, creative writing and running.

Tutoring Experience:

I have a PGCE and QTS through the Teach First graduate scheme. This was an intensive two years in a challenging school. I am also studying for a Masters level qualification in Educational Leadership from the University of Warwick.

I have taught KS3 and KS4 Science (all subjects), as well as Chemistry up to A level.

Between 2002 and 2007 I taught a class of 10 year olds for 11+ exams in maths, verbal and non-verbal reasoning.

I am currently also registered and teach with two tutoring agencies: Key Stone Tutors and Elm Village Tutors

Tutoring Approach:

My teaching approach is questioning and based with experience where possible. Perfect practice makes perfect. I believe the true value of education lies with understanding and imagination. These are two keys to Science as a whole. My approach is to make scientific concepts as relevant as possible.
I also think that learning should be a fun, positive experience that builds character so I seek to gain trust and build strong relationships.

I have a firm belief in independent working. The point I would like to reach with any student is the point where they no longer need me. At this point a tutee has attained a status of a true learner: one who possesses the tools to find, assimilate and apply information without the need of a guide.

I have an advanced understanding of the learning process, gleaned from my experience of Neuroscience, intensive teacher training and research into educational leadership. This, combined with my practical friendly approach ensures success.
