English and Computer Studies / I.T. Teacher in Devizes

I particularly enjoy working with young people and feel that my approach helps bring the subject to life. I also work with adult learners and students from other countries, both face-to-face and online. I am enthusiastic about my subject, and have an approachable and professional manner, with a good sense of humour! I like to help develop my learner's confidence in themselves as I find this is essential to achieve good results.

Please note that I am happy to travel a reasonable distance within Wiltshire, (maximum 20 miles) but I do have to make a charge for this, because of the extra time and travel expenses. This does not apply for Devizes or the nearby villages. Please note that tutoring spaces are filling up fast now for the new academic year 2018-2019, especially evenings and weekends.

Tutoring Experience

I have many years experience teaching in Further Education and in the community. I have also given tuition in English to students via the local authority as well as privately. I have had experience of working with young people who are experiencing difficulties with their study, both in college or because they have been excluded from school. I have recently worked with students in Devizes and Lavington Schools. I have also worked with students who wish to achieve a high grade in their GCSEs or A Levels in order to meet further or higher education criteria. I have experience of working with adults, particularly for those wishing to return to work or to education or to improve their English in order to achieve workplace promotion. I have also worked with foreign language students who wish to improve their use of English in their own countries or in the UK

I am fully conversant and keep up-to-date with the exam board requirements for GCSE English, English Language and English Literature and GCE A Level English Language and Literature.

Tutoring Approach

I have a calm patient manner. I like to build up a good working relationship with my students. I prepare all resources on a individual basis with the learning preference of the student in mind. I have had particular success with those who excel in subjects like maths and science, or are of a more artistic nature, but struggle with English as a subject. I also give additional support and work via email and this year will be updating my website with the latest resources and exam papers for GCSE English Language and Literature.

I also offer online tutoring via Skype in order to work with those outside Wiltshire. This has worked very successfully over the last three years for students studying in different parts of the UK and abroad, as we were able to chat online, and share resources using Google Drive.

The first introductory session to get to know the student is offered free of charge.
