This is how 2 referees rated Henry:
I am currently reading History with French as an undergraduate at UCL and I'm also available to tutor History, French and Maths from pre-GCSE to A-Level standard. I am in my fourth year of university, having spent last year studying at Univeristé Paris-Sorbonne IV on an Erasmus Year.
At A-Level I achieved 3 A*s in History, Maths and Further Maths & 2 As in French and Latin. I ran the school History Society and assisted with French Cinema Club.
I am happy to tutor on weekdays and weekends, and can visit your house.
Over the past three years I have had extensive experience in tutoring in London with clients ranging from Common Entrance exams for Westminster School to A-Level students. I have tutored seven different families in London and also tutored last year in Paris.
During my two years in Sixth Form at The Judd School I tutored numerous students for GCSE History and French as part of the school mentoring system.
I have also had experience in pre-GCSE teaching when I organised a student-led history workshop for Key Stage 3 students.
To ensure my tutee can benefit the most from my tutorials I always:
-plan thoroughly before
-provide a variety of learning strategies
-pinpoint the tutee's areas for improvement
-manage time carefully (including arriving punctually)
With this approach, learning time can maximised and the best possible results obtained.
To achieve the top grades, a tutorial that only covers core, factual material would be insufficient. I aim to ensure that my tutee can readily apply that material in different circumstances.
-For History, coherent argument structure, comprehensive analysis and clear communication is crucial to high-level answers. This can be achieved by using primary sources, reading the works of secondary historians and preparing mini-presentations - instead of only text-books. Planning essays as meticulously as possible, which has always been a strong attribute of mine, is equally key for a successful answer.
-For French, having spent all my school holidays in France, I can draw my first-hand experiences of French culture and the French language to enrich my tutee's learning and to ensure my tutee learns the language as the French would speak it themselves.
