I offer KS3 Maths (Years 7, 8 & 9) and GCSE tuition at your home.
I am a Chartered Civil Engineer (CEng) with a BEng Honours Degree in Civil Engineering from Imperial College, University of London. I worked in the civil engineering consultancy business for approximately 15 years and a significant proportion of my degree course and my working life involved mathematics and its practical application. In my working life as a Senior Civil Engineer, much of my time was spent mentoring and training junior engineers and technicians in the technical aspects of engineering.
I firmly believe that getting a firm foundation in maths prior to taking the GCSE exam is vital as a good maths GCSE qualification is a prerequisite for most jobs.
In my working life as a Senior Civil Engineer, much of my time was spent mentoring and training junior engineers and technicians in the technical aspects of engineering.
I have been working with Maths GCSE students for approximately five years.
At our tutoring sessions we work through questions from text book (that I have recommended and the tutee has purchased) on topics they feel they need to develop. I leave them with questions for homework which we review the following week.
Periodically I set them past exam papers (emailed to the student) and this enables me to identify the topics they need further practice in.
I believe that developing the student's confidence is key as that is always a part of the battle!
It has been very rewarding to see each pupil's confidence and knowledge develop. Feedback from parents of all my tutees has been very positive. In all cases each pupil's school teacher has noticed the improvement and in some cases the school has raised the tutees predicted GCSE exam grade.
I can see, sometimes in the space of just a few sessions, how my work with each pupil helps to improve their understanding of maths.
