ANY TUTORING TAKING PLACE IN MY HOME WILL BE TAKE PLACE IN A CLEAN, SANITISED AREA.
Please Note
There is a dog and cat on the premises who are extremely friendly and used to children.
I graduated from Staffordshire University with a Ba Honours Degree in Education in 2011, after studying for five years in the evenings while working full time as a senior teaching and learning practitioner. Studying relatively recently means I am familiar with new approaches to education and modern methods of teaching and learning styles. My dissertation topic was "Barriers to Learning", which led me to research areas which are preventing children from learning within mainstream schools and what we can do to help children overcome these barriers.

Tutoring Experience

With recent events I have been teaching Maths and English via zoom, which is something I would be willing to discuss if you would prefer this method of teaching. Recently I have moved to year 5 however for the last 10 years I have taught SATS booster classes for year 6 in Maths and English.

I am currently working in a primary school where I have been for the past 22 years. My role involves teaching all curriculum subjects. In the past I have also taught pupils from reception through to year 6. I have vast experience of teaching pupils who have English as an additional language and pupils with special educational needs, including pupils with aspergers, autism and dyslexia.

Tutoring Approach

YEAR 6 SATS

I accept pupils from ks1 up to year 6 for Maths and English.
One of my strongest beliefs is that building a relationship with a child is the first step in being able to teach them anything. All children are different, what works with one child will not necessarily work with another. Treating pupils as individuals and adapting teaching methods to suit them and their learning styles is a major benefit of working with them as a personal tutor. It is of benefit to some children to find out what interests rhem and then to incorporate that into their learning. In my experience if children are enjoying what they are doing they will learn a lot more from it.

As a parent you know your child better than anyone. In an initial consultation I feel it would be beneficial to chat with you and your child and discuss what you want to achieve through the tutoring and decide together which approach we should adopt. I'm friendly, easy going and approachable and I hope that comes across in the way I teach.
If your child is lacking in confidence in a particular subject, private tutoring can be very beneficial.

Please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.

Thank you
Helen
