English and English (Foreign Language) Lessons in Douglas

I am a dedicated, enthusiastic and creative English teacher, fully qualified with a PGCE and a 2.1 BA degree in English Literature. I have 7 years teaching experience, with proven ability of helping students develop and improve, increasing their confidence, and providing them with the skills needed to pass their exams.

I can offer tutoring at my home, I can visit your home, or we can arrange tutoring online.

Tutoring Experience

I have taught GCSE English in FE colleges & Community Centres, to both classes and small groups of students from a diverse range of ages, cultures and abilities.

I have tutored a number of students privately (both children & adults). Tuition has included GCSE revision and re-sit classes, grammar & spelling, additional help with class & homework, & help with CV and job applications.

During the last 3 years, I have also worked as a Senior GCSE English Examiner & Moderator for 2 exam boards (AQA & OCR). This experience has proved invaluable in helping students thoroughly prepare for GCSE exams as I have first-hand insight into the specific criteria students need to fulfil in order to achieve different grades.

Tutoring Approach

My approach to teaching is very responsive and personal to the needs and interests of each individual student. I always ensure my students are involved in developing their own individual learning plan, and I encourage them to share their ideas and interests so I can source teaching materials and resources that will focus on areas of difficulty, whilst at the same time engaging and inspiring them.

I can help students with all areas of difficulty, including exam & study skills, grammar, spelling & punctuation, structuring essays and writing for different audiences & purposes.

As a naturally calm, understanding and patient person, I help students build up their confidence, working on key areas of difficulty & ensuring their progression is clearly tracked and acknowledged through regular feedback and encouragement to keep them motivated.
