I am a graduate in learning styles with a focus on english, drama/theatre and media. I have an active interest in all types of learning and favour tailoring the journey to the individual who is learning.
For exam preparation I include all texts (novels, scri pts, poetry, drama and essays) and specialize in essay technique (helping with advice on structure, organization of material and clarity of expression).
I have extensive experience of working with home schooled students as well as those who go to school, at all levels. These include GCSE, A level (AS & A2), graduate and post graduate level.
I regularly work with students to raise their confidence in their abilities. This is usually achieved by making learning fun which naturally makes it easier.
I work in person and world-wide via Skype.
Where re-takes are concerned many students have improved their grades during their time with me, as the result of improving their understanding about the subject, exam requirements and structure.
I also work as a youth theatre director, drama teacher and drama coach and can therefore support LAMDA, Trinity College, the Arts Award, exam preparation, Drama School interview/audition preparation and in the development of monologues. I regularly use drama to simply improve confidence.
I think it is important that all lessons/sessions are geared to the specific needs of the individual. Consequently, I make sessions as collaborative as possible, and encourage as much contribution from the student as possible. Ideas only stick through engagement and participation - not lecturing - so I make texts and subjects as interesting and relevant as possible. However, I also acknowledge the necessity of a methodical approach, particularly with reference to exams, so I am happy to discuss the process of putting together an essay - length, time management, structure etc.
An initial meeting will always be arranged before tutoring is confirmed, to make sure that the student and tutor will be able to work together. We need to be able to get on!
I have been working as a tutor for over 20 years and have had students aged from 8 to 50 years. Teaching has taken place both in person and via Skype (world wide, long distance).
Generally, programmes of work have been developed for those needing general support with school work (for young people in school and at home), entrance exams, GCSE exams and retake work, A level development, degree support and doctorate development (assistance with the writing of your thesis).
Regarding drama, I am a professional actor and theatre director and have worked with a range of colleges as well as theatre companies working with children and young people. I have also worked with the Birmingham Hippodrome, The Repertory Theatre and within the West End. Many of my students have improved their predicted grades at GCSE and A level, have been accepted into Drama Schools, have returned to me for support whilst at University and Drama School and some have, as the result of attending my drama school or working with me on a one to one basis, have successfully been cast in key roles on stage and television.
We always have fun while learning.

He told me that Helen has already regained his confidence in himself and we have agreed to continue with Skype sessions.
In response to your comments, you paid me for the lesson that I came over to you to do, the introductory lesson.
After that I was unable to continue immediately as I became unwell. I was aware that you need was urgent as your daughter was struggling, so provided the contact for another experienced tutor.
I am delighted that you have a credit with First Tutors to enable you to find another tutor in the future. Neither FT nor individual tutors offer refunds for the initial payment for contact details; that is simply the way this system works.
I wish your daughters the best in their studies.
