I have a Masters Degree in English and a BA(Hons) in Literature. I also have extensive experience in teaching maths from KS1 - GCSE and Functional Skills Levels 1 & 2. I have a dedicated teaching room in my own home which is full of resources. I am also a qualified hypnotherapist, which means I have a full understanding of anxiety issues surrounding education and examinations. I have enjoyed tutoring many children and adults (often members of the same family) and believe that everybody, given the right circumstances and guidance can reach their own true potential. I am in my early fifties with a young outlook on life. I am a parent and a grandparent. I have a full DBS.
For the past five years I have balanced working as a private tutor for the main stream sector as well as working as a teacher teaching KS3 and GCSE to children with autism. I have, in total, over 10 years experience of one-to-one and small group teaching. I do not have a teaching certificate but my qualifications and experience mean I do have an expertise in communication and understanding how different people learn which is invaluable to any student, whatever their goal.
I believe that learning should be fun, challenging and an enjoyable experience. Whether reaching for a First Class Degree or wishing to learn to read my approach is to unlock any difficulties faced in understanding how to achieve that goal and to encourage a proactive approach. In simple terms, discover what the problem or lack of knowledge is, teach you what you need to know and help you to help yourself to succeed.
