I'm a very experienced teacher of Modern Foreign Languages to a high level and have a track record of success in teaching students to succeed and to enjoy the process! One-to-one tuition allows a real focus on the needs of the individual learner and my sessions are tailored and planned to meet these needs, to build confidence and to extend the skills needed to use the language with assurance and, where appropriate, to prepare for examinations.
I am also a senior examiner and assessment writer, so have many years of first-hand experience of this part of the education process too, and have recently written new textbooks for GCSE German based on the new specification.I really enjoy working with individual students and watching them succeed.
I have many years of experience as a languages teacher, and have worked in some high-achieving schools. I have run large departments and been subject head for German and French for much of my career. I am as at ease working with able students as with those who are finding language learning a challenge. Tutoring lets me plan and deliver exactly what the student needs in an atmosphere of cooperation which is more relaxed and yet also more productive than can be managed in a busy classroom. I have always done private tuition alongside my teaching and examining responsibilities and have always enjoyed this aspect of my work.
Successful tutoring depends on an able and skilled tutor, who is an expert in the subject but also - and this is crucial - on a learner who is committed and determined to do his or her best and who is ready to try hard to master new skills and knowledge. I always ensure that my sessions are varied, totally relevant and accessible to the individual - my lessons will be designed around participation and involvement and will involve both challenge and support, real work and a few laughs along the way. The best learning takes place where both tutor and learner are fully engaged and where the learning process feels good and is enjoyable as well as producing the desired outcomes.
