I have recently completed my time as a Headmistress, Maths teacher and Scout leader. I have worked in both the state and private sector for over 25 years and have tutored to GCSE level over this period enabling my pupils to make significant improvements on their predicted grades.
I have three sons who must have followed my lead as they are all now taking Maths to a higher level after GCSE's. Two have left home and are now employed, in jobs that use their maths, and my youngest son is sitting his Alevel's at present, one of which is Maths.
In my spare time I read and garden. I love to cook, hike and to go out on the Solent. I am very proud of the fact that I climbed Kilimanjaro!

I currently have space on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday after school. I am also able to tutor throughout the day on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursdays.

Tutoring Experience

I started teaching when I finished my PGCE and have been head of Maths and ICT in various schools in England before taking on my headship. I recently left my Headship to spend more time with my family.

I have led gifted and talented groups of pupils, learning support groups as well as sessions training teachers how to teach Maths. I was involved in a project advising on the implementation of the Maths National Curriculum.

I have a huge amount of experience with entrance exams; including verbal and non verbal assessments.

Tutoring Approach

I get great satisfaction from seeing the light in somebody's eyes when they understand the topic that I am explaining. I believe that everyone can do maths, if someone is struggling to understand a concept it is probably because they have not had that concept explained in a way that they could understood when they were originally taught it.

If someone does not understand what is being taught then it is up to the teacher to explain the concept again using different language, there is no reason not to be able to do Maths. Everyone can do it!

I am happy to tutor in what ever style suits my pupil. I can set extra work for you to do at home that we can go through together afterwards or just concentrate on the topic that you are wanting to do in our sessions. I am happy to mark papers for you or to go through what you have been taught in school, working alongside your maths teacher, reinforcing what they have taught in school to check you understand it properly. Alternatively, I have also found that starting on a maths topic before it is taught in school helps hugely with a pupils confidence and the final understanding of that topic
