English and History Teacher in Reading

I am a Head of Religious Studies and Philosophy who has taught GCSE RS, history and English for over 10 years. I have also taught A Level RS and Psychology.

I have a PGCE with qualified teacher status from Exeter University and a 2:1 in Religious and Theological Studies from Cardiff University.

I also hold a TEFL- Teaching English as a Foreign Language qualification.

I am currently also working at Amnesty International as an Education Officer alongside my part time teaching post.

Tutoring Experience

I have taught in a secondary school for over 10 years.

  • I have tutored various candidates over the last 8 years in GCSE Psychology, History, RS and English, A-Level and Degree Religious Studies and Philosophy.

  • Within my tutoring I have a consistently high success rate, with 100% A grade at AS and A-level Religious Studies, and 100% A*-B grades for GCSE Religious Studies and Philosophy.

  • I have also tutored a number of students who have English as a second language and built their language skills to give them greater success in a variety of English Language exams.

Tutoring Approach

As a fully qualified teacher I have a strong understanding of the A-Level and GCSE courses for a number of subjects and specialise in exam technique. I also have a good awareness of on going developments and changes within the Religious Studies and Philosophy syllabi and the university admissions process.

  • I work with students to build their confidence by raising their knowledge levels and allowing them to improve their exam technique. I also use both additional resources and higher order questions to stretch the most able and allow them to achieve excellent results.

  • Throughout my tutoring sessions I also use a number of discussion topics to build knowledge which will be particularly suitable for prospective Oxbridge candidates.
