Harriet is a professional musician, educator and writer based in Shrewsbury. She holds a First Class Honours degree in BA Music from the University of Leeds, where she received the award for outstanding achievement in her final year of study. She also studied at the leading conservatoire Leeds College of Music, specialising in composition. Throughout the past five years, Harriet has enjoyed working with a variety of people; in schools, in the older community, and for a mental health charity outside the sector of music. Her specialist areas include composition, theory and songwriting, having signed her first single publishing contract age 17. Her original songs have received airplay on BBC Introducing in West Yorkshire and BBC Shropshire, and she has created original music for several clients including the Jersey Brain Tumour Charity, Audio Network, and a recently commissioned project by filmmaker Ella Rowberry. Harriet is currently working on an upcoming EP, alongside music producer Benjamin McCarthy (Gordi, Alex The Astronaut).

I am a pianist, composer and piano teacher based in Shrewsbury with 10+ years of piano experience. I am Classically-trained but have a professional background in a variety of styles from pop and rock/blues to improvisation. Through inspiring and professional guidance, I believe that expressive playing is possible for every student. Despite many myths and negative cliches, I believe that great musicians are made, not born, and your abilities will arise out of effective practice, setting goals, obtaining the necessary direction and support, and correcting past mistakes. Every person has their own path towards learning and whatever your preferred stye or ability, I always want to provide you with ongoing encouragement and support that will enhance your enthusiasm for music. All lessons are carefully tailored around your current level, YOUR interests and the ways in which you learn best. You will be able to develop solid technique and performance skills. We will identify your goals and work together on what you want to achieve. I aim to encourage an overall sense of fluency on the piano, inspiring productive practice that ensures you're making progress in an enjoyable and shorter space of time. The answer is not always practicing more, but practicing better! Students are able to progress through music examinations (Grades 1 to Grade 8) if they wish, but there is no pressure for you to do so.

Lessons for the Young Beginner (ages 5+): private lessons will focus on performance and play as we explore the fundamentals of rhythm and metre, pitch, form, expressive qualities and performing. I take a creative and flexible approach to these important early piano lessons meaning that students won't just be held to a restrictive method book. I will always react thoughtfully to your child's interests and provide activities that will let their piano skills and creativity grow! My aim is to make piano fun, relevant and inspiring, giving your child a much deeper and broader understanding of music.
