This is how 2 referees rated Harriet:
21 years old. Looking to tutor GCSE and A Level Maths and Physics to students over the summer who maybe need a bit of a boost before the beginning of the next academic year, or preparation for resits. Available July and August.
I have recently completed a Masters in Physics at the University of Leeds and am expecting to obtain a first class classification.
AAA in A-Level Maths, Physics, Philosophy & Ethics
Friendly and approachable person. Easy to talk to and an effective communicator. First hand experience and understanding of the challenges faced when studying maths and physics.
I have spent two years mentoring first year physicists, assisting them with a range of academic issues centred around aiding the transition from A-Level to university. This included a combination of planned sessions and sessions where mentees could bring pre-prepared questions on any topic.
Throughout my academic experience, group study has always been an important part of the learning process and my tutoring skills have benefited from exchanging academic aid to and from my peers. I have always received positive feedback regarding these interactions.
The type of tutoring required is dependant on the tutee. However, personal experience has shown me that two main methods are most effective. The first is working through the course from start to finish and then moving on to past papers. This is most appropriate where the tutee requires a thorough grounding in the course material before they feel able to attempt past examination questions. The second method is more appropriate to a tutee who already has a grounding in the content material, but requires practice on examination technique and answering questions. This method will have a main focus on practising exams, understanding exam style questions and learning to spot patterns while using the course material as a supporting aid.
Again, this is something that will vary with each tutee and I am happy to alter my methods to suit each individuals needs.
