This is how 2 referees rated Harriet:
I have been involved with education all my life, as a student, a teaching assistant and a teacher in several different settings. I am always keen to develop my skills and regularly attend various professional development course. This means I have current experiences as a student myself and how challenging it can be and understand the importance of positive, effectively support. After completing my Graduate Diploma Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector I still had the learning bug so start my Associate Teaching qualification in Speech and Drama (foundation degree level) and Level 2 in Exercise to Music.
In 2010 I started working with West Nottinghamshire college full time as a tutor teaching GCSE and A Level students including adults for many subjects including Psychology, English, History and ESOL.
I have been a learning support assistant/ teaching assistant since 2009 and this has developed my ability work with students with additional needs including ESOL, emotional behavioural disorders, autistic spectrum and mental health needs. Previous to this I worked in the third sector offering employability training.
Having recently completed my teaching qualification I am able to apply all the most up to date and effective teaching methods. My focus, during both my degree and teaching qualification, was on additional needs including the barriers to education for people with mental health needs and dyslexia.
As a tutor in a college I approach all my students as adults, supporting them to become independent learners, something that can encourage less confident or demotivated students to take responsibility for their own learning and a method that can be neglected in schools.
