Personal Description:

I am currently studying medicine at the University of Leeds. I'm hard-working and motivated but I like to have fun and enjoy everything I do. I really enjoy helping others and experience so much joy when I can successfully pass on knowledge about a certain topic or concept, and I love to see those that I've helped going on to achieve great things. I'm really friendly and laid-back, and because I'm quite young I find it easy to relate to my pupils and get a good rapport, which is invaluable to successful teaching.

Tutoring Experience:

I worked as a tutor for a company called Harvard Jones, from November 2013 to June 2014, leaving when I went away to uni. At Harvard Jones I taught pupils of all ages, from KS2 up to A2 level. At KS2, KS3 and GCSE I taught a wide variety of subjects, including the core English, Maths and Sciences. At AS and A2 level I specialise in English Literature, History, Biology and Chemistry. During this time I also privately tutored several pupils in AS and A2 Chemistry, GCSE English and GCSE Maths.

Having got into medical school first time round, with 4 interviews and 3 offers, I have also been able to help those applying to university with their personal statements, UKCAT and any other queries about their application!

Tutoring Approach:

I like to make teaching fun - I know it can be hard for some pupils to have to face the fact they need a bit of extra help in a subject, so I try to make tutoring as fun and easy as possible for them. I've never taught the same lesson twice - every lesson is tailored to the individual. In the first session, I like to get to know the pupil - what are they good at, what do they need improving on, what do they enjoy doing, what learning styles suit them best. I then discuss with them a plan for the upcoming lessons - for some pupils, this will only be 1 or 2 lessons, depending on their needs, and for others it could be weekly lessons throughout the course of the year.
With this plan in mind, I can then set about tailoring a course for the pupil, working on the areas they need most. After every lesson I ask the pupil if they have any feedback - what could I do better, what do they want more of etc. I find this works really well, and because I'm quite young, and laid-back, pupils find it easy to be honest with me.

I try and make learning as fun as possible - if the pupil finds a topic interesting, they are much more likely to remember it and do well, so I use all sorts of methods, such as playing games, relating the topic to something relevant in their lives etc to make learning easier and more enjoyable for the pupil.
